Despite Norna’s unwillingness to listen, Elocina knew that Jatal would. He’d find the information beyond valuable and that was exactly why she’d decided not to share it with him. She’d spend her last night’s breaths enjoying the notion that Jatal would clamber for the truth of what happened. She’d take it to her grave and Jatal would finally lose to her.

Jatal stared at Elocina for several minutes in silence. “I imagine it’s very painful to speak right now, especially with those spikes through your body so I’ll make it easy. What else happened during the attack?”

A satisfying grin spread across Elocina’s face; it was just a pity she couldn’t let Jatal see it. Although she was imprisoned, Jatal was also stuck. The measures keeping Elocina confined also kept Jatal at bay, he couldn’t get any nearer and he couldn’t intimidate her into answering. In his Mortal form, he’d never be able to summon enough power to break the Mage General’s barrier. Elocina remained silent and waited until her silence began to aggravate him. Jatal called her name again, this time with a hint of frustration in his voice.

Got em!

“What is it, Jatal?” She answered, her voice raspy and pained.

“What really happened that night? We both know common rogues could never put Inihari in that condition, so what did? What wiped out the Faren royalty?”

Gathering what strength, she could and lifting her head just enough to make eye contact with him, Elocina gave him a bloody smile. “A pet for a pet, Jatal…” she said, lowering her head to silently stare at the ground. Jatal tried several times to make Elocina to speak, and grew increasingly frustrated. Elocina’s mind was too focused on Darien and the guilt of betraying him, to notice Jatal’s departure.

I guess this is what they call comeuppance. Hate to admit it, but you told me so, Darien.
